HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
If you have been shaving, there may be a transition period. It generally requires 2-3 consistent waxes to achieve optimal results which are: 3-4 weeks of hairlessness, softer hair, and less hair growing back.
If you haven’t been shaving prior to getting waxed, these results may be obtained more quickly.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT TO GET WAXED AFTER SHAVING?
3-4 weeks is recommended. It takes time to grow out each of the 3 cycles.
If you come in too prematurely you may not achieve a desirable results.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
We recommend booking every 6 weeks. Waxing consistently normally leads to less hair growth over time.
IS IT OK TO SHAVE BETWEEN WAXING APPOINTMENTS?
Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner thus making it easier to remove and less painful when waxed.
Shaving just one time in between will negate all that is gained from waxing and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair.
So, no, we don’t advise shaving in between.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY FIRST WAXING TREATMENT?
Hairless skin! Also, everyone's skin reacts differently to waxing treatments, but you can expect to have temporary redness and minor irritation for a day or two at most.
If you’re a bride or attending a special occasion, I recommend receiving waxing services a month before your special day to see how your skin reacts. If everything is fine, reschedule another wax a few days before.
CAN I GET WAXED ON MY PERIOD?
If possible, avoid scheduling your appointment just before or during your menstrual cycle.
We recommend this only because we tend to be most sensitive during this time.
IS WAXING SANITARY?
Yes! In concern for your health we never double dip our wax sticks. Never!!
ARE THERE ANY TOPICAL CREAMS OR MEDICATIONS I SHOULD AVOID PRIOR TO GETTING WAXED?
Yes! Internal Medication such as Accutane and topicals that include Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid,Differin,Tazorac,Avage,Strivectin,Renova,ProActive,Avita,Benzoyl Peroxide.
If you’re taking any medication or have allergies, please, please consult with your waxologist. Taking antibiotics or topical acne medicines such as Accutane, Differin, Retin A, prednisone or corticosteroids may make skin more sensitive and susceptible to some skin lifting.
IS TANNING OKAY?
You should wait 2-3 days to get waxed after you have tanned. You should never get waxed if you are sunburned or even if skin is pink. The very top layer of skin could pull off or “lift” which is painful and can result in scabbing.
You should wait for 3 days after you have waxed to tan. Waxed skin is more photosensitive and is more susceptible to burning.
ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS?
All services may be performed on clients from 15-17 years of age with a signed parent consent form.
We do not offer the Brazilian to clients under the age of 15, however all other waxing services are available with a signed parent consent form (available at our locations) and accompanied by a parent for the service.
HOW LONG, OR SHORT, SHOULD MY HAIR BE FOR WAXING?
The hair should be at least 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch for best results. If you have coarse hair it should be closer to 1/2-inch for the first few waxes. Once the hair becomes finer it can be waxed at a shorter length. If your hair is longer, I )(DO NOT SHAVE to take off a little length usually using a #1 guard on your trimmer right before your appointment is fine.
It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact that hair grows in stages and all of your hair is never at the same stage. That is why It is very important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments, as this will interrupt the process and stimulate the hair growth again.
WILL I GET INGROWN HAIRS?
It's possible.
Waxing removes the entire hair, root and all, from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over the area that was waxed so it is important to keep that area gently exfoliated. Use a gentle scrub in that area about 2 days after waxing and continue to exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week thereafter. Remember, I said gentle!
Also, use a mixture of tea tree and lavender oil. Both are antimicrobial and antibacterial and will prevent irritation.
Try to wear loose-fitting clothes for a few days after to give your skin a chance to breathe and reduce moisture.
The bikini, lip and underarms are where we tend to perspire the most. Perspiration and moisture cause bacteria to grow. Once that area has been waxed, the follicle is wide open to this bacteria creeping in.
Try to avoid heavy exercise that will increase perspiration and chaffing for about 24-48 hours after waxing.
HOW CAN I PREVENT INGROWN HAIRS?
For the next 24-48 hours avoid on the waxed areas:
use of exfoliating products (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products, loofahs, scrubs, etc.)
direct sun exposure and tanning beds
creams with fragrance or ingredients that may irritate
deodorant: it results in irritation and clogging of open follicles
wearing tight clothing: results in irritation and inflammation
excessive heat, such as that from hot tubs and saunas. Warm showers are okay.
exercise, if it may cause chaffing or sweating
touching the freshly waxed area: this encourages irritation
Exfoliating in the shower with a body brush, body glove, loofah, or some sort of gritty exfoliator everyday helps to keep the skin free from cellular buildup which can trap hair.
Apply an SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to any exposed treatment areas. Since waxing exfoliates as well as removing hair, your skin will be more prone to sunburn in the days following your treatment.
We carry Get the Bump Outta Here by Relax & Wax which helps to prevent and clear the skin of ingrown hair.
WILL WAXING MAKE MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER/STRONGER/DARKER?
Absolutely not.
Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse.
When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. A properly waxed hair is removed from the root, and when the hair starts to grow back it is a new hair, very fine at the tip, so no stubble.
The only things known to stimulate hair growth are hormones: natural or artificial.
WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
We require at least a 1-hour notice to cancel any appointment. A credit card number is needed to hold your reservation. Once an appointment is booked – unless we hear otherwise – we’ll expect you to be there. No-show and same-day cancellations will be charged 50% of the service booked to the card number with which they were held.
CAN I GET WAXED WHILE PREGNANT?
Absolutely! Sometimes your skin may feel a bit tender during pregnancy, but there is no harm to you or your baby. Make sure to discuss this with your waxologist, though. The more your waxologist knows about you, the better service she can provide.
DO MEN WAX?
Absolutely! Beyond the XY Brazilian many men also wax their chests, backs, noses and ears. Some men love to be slick from top to toes, and we can take care of that. But we have a tip for you: Don’t wax your face. While women’s faces respond well, the hair on a man’s face and head isn’t built for the waxing process.
